A loan helped to invest in supplies for his hammock weaving business.

Tatpong's story

Tatpong, from a mountain village in Northern Thailand, has navigated a challenging life with limited formal education, having only completed schooling through the 3rd grade. In his community, the value of education wasn't always recognized, leading him to spend his life working in fields, both his own and as a hired hand. However, his life took a significant turn two years ago when friends, skilled in hammock weaving, introduced him to the craft. This new skill has since transformed his economic landscape, with hammock weaving now fully supporting his family's expenses.

The shift from traditional farming to artisan hammock weaving has provided Tatpong with a stable and reliable source of income, greatly enhancing his family's financial stability and overall quality of life. Motivated by the success seen by his friends and others in the community, Tatpong has fully embraced hammock weaving, recognizing its potential as a sustainable business venture. This craft has not only enabled him to meet his household needs but has also offered the flexibility to work from home, allowing him to balance his personal and professional responsibilities effectively.

Eager to expand his business and grow his yearly earnings, Tatpong is seeking a Kiva loan to invest in materials and supplies, ensuring consistent production throughout the year.
