A loan helped to buy more pepper, oil, rice, lappa, slippers, locks, nails and other items to sell.

Nelly's story

Nelly, 56, has four children in school and lives at home. She’s been a hardworking businesswoman for two decades, selling pepper, oil, rice, lappa, slippers, locks, nails, and other items.

She received start-up capital from her mother, plus started the business with her savings. She uses a car to transport supplies to her business site and works Monday through Saturday.

To maintain her sales, she requested a loan through BRAC Liberia, a Kiva lending partner, to buy more stock to sell to her excellent clients. She likes her business because it helps her a lot. She wants to build a house and continue her children’s education. Nelly says thanks.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
