A loan helped a Hispanic woman-owned, Columbus-based business purchase kitchen utensils & supplies for a food truck.

Bella's story

I grew up in the department of Ahuachapán in western El Salvador. My mother, Estebana, raised me after my father abandoned us. My childhood was challenging, marked by hardships and loss, such as my sister’s tragic death. Despite these difficulties, I was determined to pursue my education and move to the city to build a better future.

My entrepreneurial spirit began when I returned to school as an adult. Despite facing emotional and financial challenges, I convinced a school director to let me prove my dedication by working in the school kitchen in exchange for food. This allowed me to continue my education, eventually leading to opportunities like receiving a scholarship for high school and university studies.

My motivation and passion for my business arise from overcoming personal challenges and proving to myself that anything is possible. I started shaping my dreams of entrepreneurship when I moved to the US. In 2020, I pursued my dream of owning a food truck to serve authentic Salvadoran cuisine. I am determined to grow my business, share my homeland's flavors, and inspire women and girls to achieve their dreams despite the difficulties.
