A loan helped to purchase more red oil, rice, bread, tea, vita cubes, soft drinks, charcoal and other items to sell.

Ophelia's story

This is 26-year-old Ophelia, from Liberia. She is living together with her partner and 2 children; both of her children are currently attending school while living at home. Ophelia attended school up to high school.

She is a strong businesswoman who sells red oil, rice, bread, tea, vita cubes, soft drinks, charcoal and other items. She started the business with her savings and learned how to sell from her friend. She has had no problems with her business. She sells Monday through Saturday, 9 hours each day. She likes her business because it takes care of her family.

She asked for a loan from BRAC Liberia, a Kiva lending partner. She is seeking a loan to purchase more red oil, rice, bread, tea, vita cubes, soft drinks, charcoal and other items to sell to generate greater profits.

Ophelia wants to continue sending her children to school and improve her business in the future. She says thanks.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
