A loan helped to buy more rice, oil, charcoal and other items to sell.

Hawa's story

Meet 21-year-old Hawa. She has one child, aged 2 years and lives at home. Hawa attended school up to eleventh grade. She is a hardworking business woman who sells rice, oil, charcoal and other items. Five years ago, she has been managing her sales. She learned how to sell from her mother and started the business with her own savings. She uses a car to transport supplies to her business site and sells 6 days a week.

To continue her sales, Hawa applied for a loan through BRAC Liberia, a Kiva lending partner to buy more rice, oil, charcoal and other items to sell to her good clients. She likes her business because it helps her a lot. She wants to build a house for her family in the future. Hawa wishes to say thanks.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
