A loan helped to manage her shop, which sells mobile money and soft drinks.

Joeria's story

Joeria is 45 years old and lives in the town of Kayunga in the Kayunga region of Uganda. She is married and has four children, with three of them currently in school.

For the past seven years, Joeria has been working hard to manage her shop, which sells mobile money and soft drinks. To help expand her business, Joeria has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more soft drinks and mobile float to sell. The loan will help Joeria generate greater profits and pay school fees for their children. Joeria hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a plot of land.

She is a member of BRAC's Microfinance Program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members, like Joeria, who do not have collateral for commercial loans but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
