A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize.

Bahati Nzuri Group's story

This season is not the first one that Janes is working alongside One Acre Fund. He has been a member for a few years now, having joined the program in 2014, and although he is the only person featured in the above picture, (others in the group were unavailable during profile collections), he is actually representing his group of 10 farmers in Buhuru Duka Zone District, Kenya.

Janes is often described by his community as a very friendly person and decided to be the one to represent his group because he wanted to help more farmers. Like many of his fellow farmers, Janes decided he wanted to be part of the One Acre Fund community in order to get the best quality fertilizer and hybrid seeds, and hopes to use the profits from this year’s harvest to repair his home.

This loan will not only help Janes but the whole group, who will receive maize seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of 5.12 acres of land.

Janes is holding a solar light purchased previously using a Kiva loan.

In this group: Janes, Bonface , Francis , Julius , Rose , John , Consolata , James , Angeline , Samuel

This loan is special because:

It provides smallholder farmers with seeds and supplies at the planting season.
