A loan helped to buy more cooking oil, hens and Irish potatoes to fry for sale.

Caroline's story

Caroline is 35 years old and lives in the town of Kalerwe in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has three children who are all currently in school.

For the past 14 years, Caroline has been working hard to manage her catering business, which sells fried chips and chickens.

To help expand her business, Caroline has requested a loan of 4,000,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more cooking oil, hens and Irish potatoes to fry for sale, and will help Caroline to generate greater profits and manage to provide enough food for her family.

Caroline hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business into a big restaurant. She is a member of BRAC's Microfinance Program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members, like Caroline, who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
