A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize.

Kilimo Bora Farmers Group's story

This season is not the first one that Margaret is working alongside One Acre Fund. She has been a member for a few years now, having joined the program in 2012 and, although she is the only person featured in the above picture, (others in the group were unavailable during profile collections), she is actually representing her group of 7 farmers in Buhuru Duka Zone District, Kenya.

Margaret is often described by her community as a very experienced farmer and decided to be the one to represent her group because she wanted to spread the story of One Acre Fund farmers. Like many of her fellow farmers, Margaret decided she wanted to be part of the One Acre Fund community in order to get the best quality fertilizer and hybrid seeds and hopes to use the profits from this year’s harvest to buy a cow.

This loan will not only help Margaret but the whole group, who will receive maize seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of 5.58 acres of land. Additionally, some of the farmers in the group will be purchasing a solar light so, with this loan, the group will also receive a total of 5 solar lights.

In this group: Margaret, Margret , Rispah , Everline , Agneta , Sarah , Zeddy

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
