A loan helped to purchase more used clothes to sell.

Oretha's story

This is 30-year-old Oretha from Liberia. She is living together with her partner and is a mother of two kids; her children are schooling and live at home. She attended school up to 10th grade.

She runs a retail business selling used clothes. For the past six years, she has been operating her sales and describes herself as a strong businesswoman. She learned how to sell from her mother and started the business with her own savings. She transports supplies to her business site by car. She started to sell Monday through Saturday, 10 hours.

To continue her sales, she applied for a loan through BRAC Liberia, a Kiva lending partner. The loan will be used to purchase more used clothes to sell to generate greater profits. She likes her business because it gives her money each day she sells. In the future, she would like to build a house. She wishes to say thanks.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
