A loan helped to buy more charcoal and other items to sell.

Beatrice's story

Meet Beatrice who is 42 years old. She is living together with her partner and four children. Two of her children are still in school. She never had the opportunity to attend school.

She sells charcoal and other items to help her partner with some household expenses. Her mother taught her how to sell and got her start up capital from her partner. For the past five years now, she has been operating her sales. She sells Monday through Saturday, eight hours.

She asked for a loan through BRAC Liberia, a Kiva lending partner. She plans to use the loan to buy more charcoal and other items to sell to her good clients. She likes her business because it gives her profits, and she is proud of her business because it sends her children to school.

In the future, Beatrice wants to become a very big businesswoman. She says thanks to BRAC and the Kiva community.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
