Maria Manuela's story

This is Manuela, a humble, happy indigenous woman who is cheerful with all the inhabitants and neighbors of her community, where she lives with her family, which is formed by her husband and their three children. They live in their own house, which she managed to make a reality with hard work, along with her husband, after years of [her husband] working as a stevedore in the city and [her] working little parcels of land, planting seeds for potatoes, lupini beans, and haba beans, among other crops. Thus, between the two of them, they give family stability to their little children, whom they want to see become great professionals some day.

Manuela wants to increase her plantings. For that, she needs a loan to buy agricultural supplies and seeds and pay for rent and plowing the land. Thus she is applying to the Kiva organization for her first loan, certain that she will make the payments with responsibility and punctuality.

Translated from Spanish by Kiva volunteer Pam McMurry.

This loan is special because:

It aims to reach vulnerable refugee populations in an isolated region.
