A loan helped to buy mulberry and rolls of tapa paper for her business of making tapas.

Mele's story

Mele is a mother of four grown-ups and is the wife of a farmer.

Once every week, Mele joins a group of women in the village, and together they perform the making of tapas. She was raised by a mother who makes tapas, and it is a way that Mele adapted to in order to earn income for her children.

She knows how to make tapas so well and how to design tapas with specific designs. There are certain types of paper, known by the tapa-making women as tapa paper, and it is used in making whole tapas.

Mele needs this paper for her business, but can only import it for a price. With this loan, she is able to buy mulberry and import her very own rolls of tapa paper to help her business.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
