A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer to improve harvests of maize.

Sango Lutonyi Group's story

Alice has been a member of One Acre Fund since joining the program in 2012. Although she is the only person featured in the above picture (others in the group were unavailable during profile collections), she is actually representing her group of 14 farmers in Kimilili Duka Zone District, Kenya.

Alice is often described by her community as a very experienced farmer. She decided to represent her group because she wanted to help more farmers. Like many of her fellow farmers, Alice wanted to be part of the One Acre Fund community to get the best quality fertilizer and hybrid seed. She hopes to use the profits from this year’s harvest to send her children to school.

This loan will not only help Alic but the whole group, which will receive maize seed and fertilizer to plant a total of 6.83 acres of land.

Alice is holding a solar light purchased previously using a Kiva loan.

In this group: Alice, Lilian , Maximillah , Alice , Patrick , Catherine , Wycliffe , Mwasame, Timona , Pius , Florence , Loice , Eugene , Metrine

This loan is special because:

It provides smallholder farmers with seeds and supplies at the planting season.
