A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize.

Pole Group's story

Emily joined the One Acre Fund program in 2013 and, although she is the only person featured in the above picture (others in the group were unavailable during profile collections), she is representing her group of 15 farmers in Kimilili Duka Zone District, Kenya.

Emily is often described by her community as a very experienced farmer. She decided to represent her group because she wanted to help more farmers. Like many of her fellow farmers, Emily wanted to be part of the One Acre Fund community to get the best quality fertilizer and hybrid seed. She hopes to use the profits from this year’s harvest to send her children to school.

This loan will not only help Emily but the whole group, which will receive maize seed and fertilizer to plant a total of 9.54 acres of land.

In this group: Emily, Doricus , Emily , Daniel , James , Milsend , Gladys , Ester , Edward , Miriam , Sarah , Kevin , Susan , Carlington , Josephine

This loan is special because:

It provides smallholder farmers with seeds and supplies at the planting season.
