A loan helped a member to purchase new designs of traditional clothing.

Humildes Group's story

Ana (28 years old) is a woman who is making a difference in her community through contributing to the household finances and in her children's education. She is in a common-law marriage and has two children (10 and 11) who are students in the fourth and fifth grades of primary school. Ana studied up to the fourth grade. Her spouse works as a salesman of products for daily consumption. Four years ago, Ana decided to establish a business and began to buy and sell traditional clothing. To generate additional income, she sells beverages. Ana is very well-known in her community, which has allowed her to make more sales.

She asks for her second Kiva loan to purchase more traditional clothing. She wants to increase her business and have her own retail space.

The six women who form the Friendship Bridge communal bank Humildes are businesswomen and Ana is the secretary. The majority of them work selling traditional outfits, growing corn, selling shoes, in hairstyling, and raising domestic animals. They have little or no education and speak the K'iche language, and a few speak Spanish.

Thanks to a facilitator who shares information about businesses, health, women's issues, and family topics, they are making their businesses successful. In addition, the information about planning, budgeting, and the use of social media helps them boost their businesses more.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for boosting these women's development!
