A loan helped to purchase paraffin, thread, and glasses of different sizes and colors.

Maria Gabriela's story

In Guatemala, candle production is quite profuse as in 167communities, paraffin is worked artesanally to produce different types of candles, which are the most common.

María, twenty-six years old, single, and with seven years of formal education, has managed this business for seven years. She and her parents, four siblings, and three employees, increase the production to deliver to different places. She makes retail and wholesale deliveries. To get more income, she also takes orders from catalogs of shoes for the general public. María is well-known for the quality of her service, having as a result the increase in customers and orders.

For this reason, she asks for her first individual loan from Kiva to increase the inventory of her business. She will purchase raw materials such as paraffin, thread, and glasses of different sizes and colors. Her goal is to be a wholesaler and supply other places in the country, even selling abroad.

María is of K'iche Maya ancestry and is from the department/state of Totonicapán. She feels very fortunate to be part of Friendship Bridge's Puente al Éxito program. A loan advisor from the organization offers personalized training, an essential component of this program. Topics include marketing, and formalizing the business, process, products, and services. It is information that will help Maria have solid knowledge, increasing her business and making her be successful.

Thank you very much!
