A loan helped a member to buy basic personal and cleaning products to increase business inventory.

Mujeres Bendecidas Zaculeu Group's story

Many women with little or no formal education have been able to get ahead thanks to their optimistic attitude and small businesses. This is the case of Celsa, 62, who is married to a farmer and has five children all older than 28. Three of her children are independent, one is married and another passed away. Celsa has six grandchildren.

Celsa used to have a food business but because of all the competition she closed it. Along with that business she also runs a small convenience store in her home. She is applying for a Kiva loan to increase her store inventory by buying basic goods.

Of the seven women members of the Mujeres Bendecidas Zaculeu Group, Celsa is the president. They live in the department/state of Huehuetenango. They all speak Spanish and work in businesses selling food, shoes, or running small convenience stores or raising chickens.

Thanks to the Puente de Amistad's "Microcredito Plus" program, each month the women participate in small workshops. One of them is about Good Investment which helps expand their businesses.

Thanks to Kiva lenders for lending a helping hand to women like Celsa.
