A loan helped a member to purchase cortes (traditional skirts), thread, and fabric.

Eben Ezer De Xebe Group's story

Maya women have always woven and, with the passing of time, have developed design and production businesses for women within and outside their community. This allows their Maya clothing to continue and also generates income.

Dominga (20 years old) is one of these women. For two years, she has worked selling textiles as well as also embroidering and weaving personalized orders. As production is high, she employs six women. Dominga is married to a mason and is the mother of a three-year-old child. She has eight years of formal education.

Dominga asks for her first Kiva loan to purchase traditional skirts called cortes, thread and fabric wholesale. Without a doubt, this capital will serve her to multiply her business's production. In the future, Dominga wants to have her own retail space.

The president of the Friendship Bridge communal bank Eben Ezer De Xebe is Dominga. They are seven K'iche Maya women who have businesses from buying/selling textiles to embroidering and weaving. These women are beneficiaries of Friendship Bridge's Microcrédito Plus program. An essential component of this program is the monthly training. This gives a plus to the women, empowers them to make decisions and, above all, increases their confidence to be able to effectively run their businesses.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for helping women such as Dominga and financing their loans!
