A loan helped a member to purchase thread, fabric, and vegetables to stock her businesses.

Emanuel Group's story

Juventina, forty-eight years old, only studied in two grades due to her father believing that an education didn't help women. Currently, she is married to a mason and is the mother of six children (17 to 30 years old). The older five are married and she is the grandmother of ten. Meanwhile, the youngest is currently in the ninth grade.

As it is a large family, she has wanted to support her spouse with the household experience for twenty years. She began selling vegetables at a stand in the market, five years later she added a new business weaving traditional blouses called huipiles. Due to the quantity of garments she makes, she has managed to increase her customers' demand. Juventina employs three women.

She is asking for her fifth Kiva loan to purchase a variety of thread, fabric, and vegetables. In the future, she wants to have her own retail space.

Juventina is the president of the Friendship Bridge communal bank Emanuel. They are seven Maya Kaqchikele women who are from the department/state of Suchitepéquez. Each month they receive training where they learn about topics related to business, health, family, and women. This is an essential component of Friendship Bridge's Microcrédito Plus program. Its objective is to empower these women to be successful in their businesses. They are satisfied in the different areas of their lives.
