Mujeres Sector Matul Group's story

Thirty-six-year-old Rosa is a single mother with a six-year-old son who is in kindergarten. She graduated with a diploma in accounting but has not been able to work in that profession.

So she has become a seamstress and sews clothing for women, including skirts, blouses and dresses. Rosa also sells personal care and cleaning products, a business that she has had for nine years. She also raises lambs, pigs and cattle. She butchers each when ready and sells meat by the pound.

Her goals are to have her own storefront and live in her own home. She requests her first Kiva loan to buy more fabric and animals.

Rosa is the president of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres Sector Matul” in the department/state of San Marcos. There are six other women in the group who all have the same businesses as Rosa. They meet monthly, make loan payments and then participate in a relevant educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program.

They appreciate learning about everyday topics related to health, women’s issues, family matters and business management practices. A facilitator engages them in the interactive training and uses pictures, diagrams, role playing and games to share the information that the ladies often share with family members and friends.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for helping Rosa and her friends help themselves!
