Thirty-eight-year-old Blanca, a mother of four children who range in age from ten to twenty-one, has seven years of education. She married and no longer attended school. Her husband is a blacksmith with his own workshop.
For many years she sold pillows and duvets but closed that business due to the pandemic. Two years ago she began selling personal care products as well as plastic items. She sells on social media websites and makes home deliveries. She shares that, thanks to her daughters, she is able to make home deliveries and is known for great customer service.
Her goal is to find a proper storefront to sell her products along with the casual clothing that her mother sells. Combining her business with that of her mother will help both save money and give each other additional support. She requests her first Kiva loan to buy more personal care products.
Blanca is the treasurer of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Luchadoras de Candelaria’ in the department/state of San Marcos. There are six other women in the group and some have the same businesses as Blanca. Others have convenience stores or sell tortillas, cheese, chicken with potatoes, firewood, bedspreads and seat covers.
They benefit greatly from monthly educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program. Topics are relevant in their lives and cover health, family, women and business. Recent themes have been about empowerment, health and business administration practices.
Thank you, Kiva lenders!
