A loan helped to buy more fresh varieties of food to sell for breakfast and lunch; also a fridge for soft drinks.

Margaret's story

Margaret is 40 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Mityana region of Uganda. She is married and has seven children, with four of them currently in school. For the past 12 years, Margaret has been working hard to manage her restaurant, which sells cooked food and soft drinks. To expand her business, Margaret has requested a loan of 4,000,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more fresh varieties of food to sell for breakfast and lunch; also a fridge for soft drinks. This loan will help Margaret generate greater profits and improve her standard of living by providing enough food for her family.

Margaret hopes that in the future she will be able to build rentals for business. Margaret is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members, like Margaret , who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
