A loan helped to purchase more onions to sell.

Racheal's story

Racheal is 40 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Mityana region of Uganda. She is married and has seven children, with three of them currently in school.

For the past 10 years, Racheal has been working hard to manage her grocery store, which sells onions.

To help expand her business, Racheal has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more onions to sell, and will help Racheal to generate greater profits and improve on her family standards of living by providing them enough food and more basic needs.

Racheal is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members, like Racheal, who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
