A loan helped to buy more fresh varieties of food for breakfast.

Resty's story

Resty is 34 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Mityana region of Uganda. She is married and has four children who are all currently in school. For the past three years, Resty has been working hard to manage her restaurant, which sells cooked food and soft drinks.

To help expand her business, Resty has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more fresh varieties of food for breakfast and lunch as well as a fridge for soft drinks. These supplies will help Resty to generate greater profits and improve her family's standard of living by providing them enough food.

Resty hopes that, in the future, she will be able to buy a plot of land and build rental units for business. She is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members, like Resty, who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
