A loan helped to buy more liquor and soft drinks for sale.

Florence's story

Florence is 35 years old and lives in the town of Mityana, in the Mityana region of Uganda. She is married and has four children, with two of them currently in school.

For the past seven years, Florence has been working hard to manage her bar business, selling liquor. To help expand her business, Florence has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings (UGX) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more hard liquor and soft drinks for sale, helping Florence to generate greater profits and be able to take good care of her children and provide enough food for her family.

Florence hopes that in the future she will be able to buy land and build a house of her own.

Florence is a member of BRAC's microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members, like Florence, who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
