Julia Esperanza's story

Julia Esperanza is 72 years old. She’s married and has 14 grown-up children. Her husband is a trader. They live in the Olmedo district, a place known for its beautiful countryside and its hard-working residents who work in agriculture or rear animals.
She’s a hard-working woman who finds ways to earn an income to help her husband with the household expenses. He works rearing free-range chickens. She collects the eggs and some of these she sells while others are left for the hens to incubate so they can have more chickens. She also works preparing and selling pasties and plantain and fish fritters. She sells these in the afternoon and at the weekend she makes fish and pork rolls. She sells these from home or one of her children takes them to sell at Manta where they have many customers asking for her delicious food.
