A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize.

Moyie Group's story

This season is not the first one that Fredrick is working alongside One Acre Fund. He has been a member for a few years now, having joined the program in 2020 and, although he is the only person featured in the above picture (others in the group were unavailable during profile collections), he is actually representing his group of 24 farmers in Uranga Duka Zone District, Kenya.

Fredrick is often described by his community as a very reliable person and decided to be the one to represent his group because he wanted to be more active in his community. Like many of his fellow farmers, Fredrick decided he wanted to be part of the One Acre Fund community in order to have access to quality training and new farming methods. He hopes to use the profits from this year’s harvest to invest in a business.

This loan will not only help Fredrick but the whole group, who will receive maize seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of 7.765 acres of land.

In this group: Fredrick, Elizabeth , Margaret , Lucy , Mercy , Rose , Jane , Walter , Albert, Ireen , Sara , Rosemary , Kenneth , Prisca , Sylvester , Dorca , Veronica , Wilkister , Gilbert , Clare , Risper , Magdaline , Margaret , Ambose

This loan is special because:

It provides smallholder farmers with seeds and supplies at the planting season.
