A loan helped a member to buy mulch, insecticides, and seeds.

Flor De Cepresales Group's story

Alma, age 36, is the single mother of four children, ages 3 to 15 years. The youngest child does not attend school yet, and the others are in kindergarten, fifth, and eighth grades. Alma only went to school for three years, because her parents did not think education was important.

Alma's father has much land, and the family takes advantage of it to grow cardamon. The parents and siblings working together have obtained good harvests for four years. She sells wholesale in her village. Being a woman has not stopped Alma from having big dreams. Her goal is to continue increasing the harvests and selling products of quality. She requests a Kiva loan to buy mulch, insecticides, and seeds. Alma trusts that, with this capital, she can make her business bigger and generate more profits.

Nine women of Maya Q’eqchi ethnicity comprise the communal bank called “Flor de Cepresales” of Puente de Amistad [Friendship Bridge]. They are from a rural area in the department / state of Quiché. The women work growing cardamon and basic grains. Every month they participate in training on topics of business, health, education, and family. These educational talks give the women important tools for achieving their objectives, thanks to the “Microcrédito Plus” program of Puente de Amistad.

The impossible is possible for entrepreneurial Guatemalan women thanks to the Kiva lenders!
