A loan helped a member to buy more fabric and thread.

Manantial De Pachac Group's story

Twenty-eight years old Francisca, a married mother of five children who range in age from one to twelve, shares that accepting the responsibility of administering a business is important because the development of her own business and community go hand in hand. For ten years, she has sewn and embroidered traditional blouses/”huipiles” and ornate aprons/”delantales”. She sells from her home and on the street. To generate extra income, Francisca raises chickens and turkeys. Currently, she has many orders for her pretty textiles but lacks raw materials. She is requesting her fourth Kiva loan to buy more fabric and thread at the wholesale level. She will use part of her income to support the continuing education of three of her children.

Francisca joined seven other Maya K’iche women and formed the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Manantial de Pachac”. They live in the department/state of Totonicapan. Although they only have an average of four years of formal education, they have developed viable businesses including animal husbandry, textile production, as well as the creation of delicious regional snack foods. They participate in the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, monthly educational training (business, family, women, health), and bi-monthly health care services (exams, consults, family planning).

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for learning about Francisca and her friends. Your loan support is greatly appreciated!
