A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for maize cultivation.

Akote Group's story

This season is not the first one where Peter is working alongside One Acre Fund. He has been a member for a few years now, having joined the program in 2016. Although he is the only person featured in the picture (others in the group were unavailable during profile collections), he is actually representing his group of 14 farmers in Chelelemuk Duka Zone District, Kenya.

Peter is often described by his community as a very reliable person and decided to be the one to represent his group because he was nominated by the team. Like many of his fellow farmers, Peter decided he wanted to be a part of the One Acre Fund community in order to have access to quality training and acquire new farming methods. He hopes to use the profits from this year’s harvest to send his children to school.

This loan will not only help Peter, but the whole group, who will receive maize seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of 9.29 acres of land.

In this group: Peter, John , Selfa , Janet , Carolyne , Metrine , Boaz , Titus , Dennis , Winny , Dorcas , Juma , Geoffrey , Jane

This loan is special because:

It provides smallholder farmers with seeds and supplies at the planting season.
