A loan helped to buy more items for making the local brew to sell.

Maliza Nyiraneza's story

Mliza is 38 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Mityana region of Uganda. She is married, and has five children with four of them currently in school.

For the past five years, Mliza has been working hard to manage her bar business, which sells liquor.

To help expand her business, Mliza has requested a loan of 4,000,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more items for making the local brew to sell.

This will help Mliza to generate greater profits to be able to take good care of her children and provide enough food for her family.

Mliza hopes that in the future she will be able to own a food stall.

Mliza is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members, like Mliza, who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
