A loan helped a member to buy thread and seeds for the family seed business.

Regalo De Dios Group's story

Twenty-two-year-old Marilin was elected President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Regalo de Dios” by six women who live in a rural area in the department/state of Quiche. They all have the same businesses as Marilin. Since they have little or no formal education, they benefit greatly from monthly educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus" program of loans, education and health care. Monthly interactive educational training, delivered by a Facilitator, covers everyday topics like health, nutrition, hygiene, the use of medicinal plants, as well as business management practices. Bi-monthly health care services are delivered by a traveling nurse who is sensitive to their needs and offers all kinds of basic services including exams, consults and family planning. Both of these “plus” services are essential for the success of these women!

She shares that she attended school for five years. She adds that she has been weaving and embroidering traditional blouses in the department of Chimaltenango for five years and can deliver one every two months. She also raises chickens to earn extra income and helps her husband with their seed business. She would like to use her first Kiva loan to buy a variety of thread and more seeds.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for learning about Marlin and her friends and for funding their loans! You are very much appreciated!
