A loan helped to buy two oxen, as well as the inputs for growing carrots and potatoes.

Vololoniaina's story

Her name is Vololoniaina. She is 37 years old. The couple have two children. Vololoniaina and her family live in an accessible village, although rural. Day to day, she is busy growing crops and raising livestock that are the main sources of revenues for nearly all the inhabitants of her village. The revenues are boosted by selling milk. The earnings provide for all family expenses.

Vololoniaina took out two loans successively with Vahatra to use as capital for her crops and livestock. Her aim is to increase revenues to afford building a more modern house for her family. With her earnings, she is managing to make deposits into savings in cash and in kind. She is also managing to better meet family needs.

Vololoniaina is asking for this Kiva loan to buy oxen. She will maintain the livestock to help her with working the fields and with transporting the harvest. Beyond this, she will also plant carrots and potatoes. She is going to buy seeds, fertilizer, and crop care products.

The harvests will be sold at the grand market. She is expecting a good profit to bolster her savings for her construction plans.
