A loan helped to purchase more cartons of fish to grow her business.

Aminata's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone! This is 40-year-old Aminata from Goderich Branch. She is a widowed business woman with four children between the ages of 6 and 19 years old. They are currently attending school. She started this business to educate her children.

Aminata runs a retail business and sells fish to her customers around the community. She has been in this business for the past 10 years ago. Aminata says that her challenge is the increase in the cost of goods and commodities in the country.

She requested this loan through BRAC Sierra Leone to purchase more cartons of fish to grow her business. Aminata says that the extra income from this loan will help to provide more income for her family. In the future, she would like to expand to a large scale. She says thanks to BRAC and Kiva for their support.

This loan is special because:

It provides access to funding in areas where there are limited alternative sources of finance.
