A loan helped a member to purchase farm inputs and mechanized services.

Katimengmonye Group's story

The Katimengmonye farmer group is comprised of 44 farmers in the Tankuri community in the Upper West Region of Ghana, and 84% of the members are female, primarily single mothers. This group of farmers is in legume and cereal cultivation and will be happy to benefit from this Kiva loan.

The group understands the importance of adopting modern techniques to enhance crop production. They recognize the potential for growth and prosperity through investing in high-quality seeds, chemicals and fertilizers. The group’s dream is to see their farms flourish, not just for themselves and their family, but also as a source of sustenance and livelihood for their community.

Each group member farms 0.5 hectares of land annually and faces the challenge of a lack of capital to pay for inputs and agricultural services, which would have increased yield, leading to household income. In the picture is George who is the group leader. He has two children and plays the role of the lead farmer of the group.

This loan will provide GHS 724 for each group member (or up to GHS 31,856 for the entire group) if granted. It will support these farmers, especially the female farmers, to access farm inputs and mechanization services. The loan includes other group members beyond just the group leader featured in the picture.
