A loan helped to purchase an irrigation system, and film for the plants, and to pay for manual work.

Dorin's story

Dorin thanks Kiva lenders for the previous loan, which helped him buy the irrigation system and fertilizer, and pay for manual labour to keep the business going.

Dorin used to work abroad. Now he has stayed at home and decided to get involved in agriculture. He owns agricultural land where he has planted 2 hectares of watermelons and 1.5 hectares of pumpkins. The watermelon fruit is used for making jam. But the pumpkin is grown for its seeds, from which he extracts oil. He has equipment for extracting oil from various seeds and nuts. It is a new business, but he hopes to develop it further. Last year he did not have as much fruit as he had planned because of the drought.

Further investment is expensive and Dorin does not have the money. That's why Dorin is now applying for a Kiva loan to buy an irrigation system, film for the plants and to pay for manual labour. By planting seedlings under the film and irrigating the land, he will get bigger, earlier and more valuable yields. This will help him achieve his goal of increasing his family's income for a better life.
