Bright Life Uganda's story

In Uganda, 73% of the population lives without electricity. BrightLife is a social enterprise on a mission to enable off-grid Ugandans to increase productivity by accessing solar powered products.

BrightLife has established a tested and scalable model to provide access to life-enhancing products, including clean energy solutions and basic household sanitation solutions that can improve peoples’ health, well-being, productivity and overall quality of life, if made accessible at affordable terms.

BrightLife has created over 350 jobs and reached more than 27,300 households benefiting 50,000 people with clean energy solutions and offsetting 13,061 tonnes of CO2. This year it will expand its reach in Northern Uganda to provide clean energy products in refugee settlements and host communities.

Kiva’s loan will allow BrightLife to purchase and provide 150+ solar-powered freezers with affordable financing for families and shop owners. This is BrightLife’s first loan through the Kiva Social Enterprise program.
