A loan helped a member to buy and sell corn.

Flor De Hortensia 1 Group's story

Angelina is 34 years old. She grew up with her parents, who had many financial limitations, resulting in her not being able to study. From a young age, she has worked cleaning houses and washing clothes in order to be able to contribute some income to her family.

At 13 years old, she married a man older than her. They were only together 8 months and then they separated. Ten years later, she married her current spouse. They have 3 children.

This year, Angelina received her seventh loan. She has used the funds for making and selling chuchitos (a traditional Guatemalan dish), and buying and selling coffee. She will invest her seventh loan in the buying and selling of corn.

Angelina is very thankful to the Asociación for the loans she's received, as they have enabled her to earn the necessary income to support her family, and for her children to be able to study.

Angelina is the leader of the "Flor de Hortensia 1" group. The group is made up of 6 women. One is of the Ixil Maya ethnicity, 2 are of the Qʼanjobʼal Maya ethnicity, and 3 are of the Ladina ethnicity.
