A loan helped to buy more milk, sugar, oats, tea, butter, and other food items to sell.

Makasa's story

Makasa, 40, is from Liberia. She is living with her partner along with 2 children, both in school. Makasa sells milk, sugar, oats, tea, butter, and other food items. Seventeen years ago, she began operating her sales. She started the business with her own savings and learned how to sell from her aunty. She uses a car to transport supplies to her business site and works Monday through Saturday. Makasa applied for a loan through Brac Liberia, a Kiva lending partner. With this loan, she will invest in her business by buying more food items to sell to her good clients. She likes her business because it sends her children to school. Her dream for the future is to open a store. She is highly grateful for the financial support rendered.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
