A loan helped to purchase more water, rice, soap, red oil, vita, salt, onions, tomatoes and other items to sell.

Jestina's story

Meet 39-year-old Jestina, from Liberia. She lives with her partner and has four children; all of her children are currently attending school while living at home. Jestina never had the opportunity to attend school.

Jestina runs a retail business selling water, rice, soap, red oil, vita, salt, onions, tomatoes and other items. She learned how to sell from her mother and started selling with her savings. She faces no problem with her business and uses a car to transport supplies to her business site. She sells Monday through Saturday and spends 12 hours at her business site.

Jestina requested this loan from Brac, a Kiva field partner, to purchase more water, rice, soap, red oil, vita, salt, onions, tomatoes and other items to sell in order to generate greater profits. She likes her business because it helps to sustain her family.

In the future, Jestina wants to increase her business. She says thanks and expresses appreciation to Brac and the Kiva community for their support.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
