A loan helped to buy crates of soda, sugar for the passion juice, and energy drinks.


Maria's story

Maria is 27 years old and lives in the town of Kabuusu in the Kabuusu region of Uganda. She is married and has 2 children who are currently in school. For the past 4 years, Maria has been working hard to manage her beverages business, selling soft drinks like passion juice, water, sodas and mobile money transaction.

To help expand her business, Maria has requested a loan of 900,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy enough crates of soda, sugar for the passion juice, energy drinks and float for the mobile transaction, and will help Maria to generate greater profits. This way, her production will increase and attract more revenue. She will manage to buy food for her family. Maria hopes that in the future she will be able to acquire land and construct a house of her own.

Maria is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small Group members like Maria who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
