A loan helped a women-owned, family-run business build a food cart and bring Shawarma to Burlington.

Sabah's story

My name is Sabah and I am a New American from Iraq. I came to the United States in 2014 seeking safety and a future for my family and stability for my children. When we left Iraq, we left behind our belongings, but what I was able to bring here is the recipes and knowledge of Iraqi cooking. Iraqi cooking is generations of community, of parents and grandparents cooking with their children and sharing food as a form of love. By sharing food, it is a way to share community, honor our cultural journey, and a way to continue life.

This loan is special because:

It supports a small business owner with 0%-interest, zero-fee capital.
