A loan helped to buy pandanus for her weaving business.

Pisila's story

Pisila is a 45-year-old mother of three. She is married to a farmer, and they live in a two-bedroom house. Currently she runs a weaving business, where she weaves on her own and also pays a group of women to weave for her. She only weaves taovala (an article of native clothing [a woven mat] that is worn to show traditional ways of respect), while paying the group of women to weave her larger size weavings, such as mats and fihu.

It is Pisila's long-term goal to rebuild their house so that her family will live in a larger and more comfortable place. She sells out her weavings to some of her relatives overseas, and at the local market. With this loan, Pisila is able to buy the amount of pandanus (raw material from plants used for weaving) needed for her business.
