A loan helped to buy more cooking oil and hens to fry and sell.

Lydia's story

Lydia is 34 years old and lives in the town of Njeru in the Mukono region of Uganda. She is married and has five children, with four of them currently in school. For the past five years, she has been working hard to manage her catering, selling fried chips and chicken.

To help expand her business, Lydia has requested a loan of 3,000,000 UGX (Ugandan Shillings) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more cooking oil and hens to fry and sell. This will help her to generate greater profits and improve on her family’s standard of living by providing them enough food and paying school fees for her children. Lydia hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business more.

Lydia is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Lydia who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
