Every two weeks the members of the community bank Las Piedras meet in the neighbourhood of Las Piedras located in the parish of Picoaza in the town of Portoviejo. The town is known for its traditional culture, for its happy people, and for its San Pedro and San Pablo celebrations.
30-year old Yolanda is a member of the bank. She is married and has a 4-year old son. Her husband is a businessman. Yolanda has a university degree and currently works on contract in a school. She also sells all types of clothing from door to door as well as to customers who come to her house. During the vacations she works at this job three days a week from 1pm to 5pm , but when she is teaching she sells to her friends at the school. She extends credit to her customers and collects from them every two weeks. She buys the merchandise from Guayaquil and has had her business for two years.
The loan will be used to buy pants, shirts, blouses, children’s clothing, underwear etc. Yolanda is a founding member of the bank and particularly enjoys the educational talks. Her dream is to have a stall where she can sell her products.
