A loan helped to purchase seeds, manure, fertilizers, compost, and other agricultural supplies.

Maria Elena's story

Elena is a humble, hospitable, and sympathetic woman who lives with her husband, their 14 year old son, and her mother who is an older adult with hearing loss. Elena is her caretaker. With her husband, Elena makes a living by growing and selling products such as corn, potatoes, onion, and beans. She has been doing this work for eight years to support her home.

When her crops are ready, Elena sells her products directly to the market without any intermediaries, so she can offer the best price to her consumers. Elena wants to expand her crops - this is why she is applying for a loan to purchase seeds, manure, fertilizers, compost, and other agricultural supplies.

She is hoping to continue with better profits so she can offer a better education to her son. She wants to one day see him become a professional and have a better life than her and her husband have had due to their lack of opportunities.
