A loan helped a female entrepreneur and 3-time Kiva borrower purchase inventory & expand her cleaning business!

Myriam's story

I was born in Nicaragua and my mother had her own boutique. We used to sell jewelry, clothes, beauty products and I would help her. I used to cashier for my mother and it brought me much joy working with other people. I looked up to my mother because she was independent and she did not have to depend on my father’s financial support. She was able to support her family and give us everything we needed. My mother was an example of being able to grow her own business and grow profits from it. I have always been drawn to an independent store. Almost 2 years ago I have been selling fashion bags of good quality, original high heel pumps and perfumes for woman.

Being able to work for myself has given me financial stability and makes me feel secure that I will always have my own means. Leaving in this great country for the last 17 years, I have realized how important it for micro businesses to grow economic equity. Being an example to my community by having my own business is what I want to continue to do. Future generations must know the importance of how small businesses impact our country. In the future I want to be able to open my own store with lots of economic financial stability and be able to expand my products as well. Having that stability will allow me to be independent and have the opportunity to give jobs to other members of my community, I want to be able to show everyone that having your own business has lots of self worth and develop yourself without limits. Having devotion and dedication to your business will have a great impact on your future.
