I was born and raised in Peru in a low-income artisan community where various high-quality and beautiful handicrafts are created, but there is no opportunity to export them to other countries. That's why I dedicated myself to exploring different places where there were artisan workers with diverse cultural expressions, and I would like the opportunity to export these products to many countries, introducing them to the various items crafted by skilled hands.
Now that I am in California, I decided to start a business to import various artisanal products from low-income communities where I grew up, providing direct employment for artisan families. This endeavor in foreign trade brings me great satisfaction, serving as a bridge between my country and California.
As I've been running this business on a small scale, I see the need to grow a bit more. Therefore, I need financial resources and marketing support to continue helping more families in need. My business, Intishine Perusa Lam, is dedicated to importing artisanal products from Peru. We also organize exhibitions and sales of seasonal artisanal products for children, youth, and adults at various fairs, auctions, through social media, and direct sales. Currently based in the city of Bakersfield, California, we actively participate in events spanning from the South to the Central Valley of California, establishing direct contact with customers and those interested in our artisanal products.
We take pride in showcasing handmade products crafted by individuals with limited resources, providing them with an opportunity to have their work transcend borders and reach the United States. In the future, we aspire to be a business with branch distributors in different parts of the U.S., reaching more people and creating more job opportunities.
Our customers are adults who appreciate ethnic fashion, value the cultures of different communities, and seek new and unique alternatives to traditional options. One of my challenges is to be an ambassador and promoter of culture through artisanal products, aiming to improve the economies of many households.
In this endeavor, Kiva would be of great support at this moment, providing us with financing to achieve our set objectives and goals.
What is the purpose of this loan?
I am applying for this loan because it will help grow my business and achieve a better positioning for artisanal works, aiming for them to be accepted as an alternative fashion. The loan will be used for implementing improvements, efficient management, and marketing strategies. Additionally, it will assist in enhancing storage and handling of all inventory, leading to increased sales each season and a more efficient distribution of artisanal products to buyers.
This loan will also support the purchase and expansion of our inventory of seasonal artisanal products for this winter. This, in turn, will generate employment for low-income families and result in higher sales during the cold season. Lastly, the loan will allow us to plan for the future and be prepared to open multiple branch locations in other parts of the U.S.
Specifically, these Kiva loan funds will be used as following: Computer (about 29% of loan funds); contracting services for the development of a website and virtual store (about 14% of loan funds); Inventory (about 29% of loan funds); Industrial Printer (about 18% of loan funds); kitchen aprons (about 11% of loan funds);

"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
Do Kiva borrowers pay any interest on their loans?
Our partners collect interest from borrowers because there are many operational expenses associated with microfinance in developing markets, especially in rural areas. Many of Kiva's Lending Partners also provide additional services alongside their loan products such as business training, financial literacy lessons, or health services.
Kiva will not partner with an organization that charges unreasonable interest rates, and we require Lending Partners to fully disclose their rates. In addition, we only partner with microfinance institutions and organizations that have a social mission to serve the poor, unbanked, and underserved.
