A loan helped a cultural-based dance studio (and repeat Kiva borrower!) continue to offer inexpensive dance classes.

Juliette's story

For 25 years I was a television writer then I fell in love with Argentine Tango, not the stereo-typical tango seen in movies and television, but with the true authentic tango that represents the history and culture of Argentina. I grew up hearing the music of tango that my parents played but it wasn't until I was 50 that I began to dance the tango. The power of the dance to help people heal, to lift their souls and spirits captured me, just as storytelling had as a writer.

I am passionate about teaching tango because it truly is life-changing. I teach to disabled people (we have a student with one leg). I teach to the blind, to Parkinson's patients and early on-set Alzheimer's patients. My dance studio has become a home-away-from-home for hundreds of people who need that sense of community. My studio is the North Star of Argentine Tango in Los Angeles, but it was profoundly and adversely affected by Covid. People became fearful to dance because of the closeness of the dance which is done heart to heart. I am trying to reach new audiences to show there is nothing to fear.

This loan is special because:
